Just gotta say... FF12 was one of THE BEST Final Fantasy games, and stories IMHO. It got a bad rap for some shitty reasons... and I think largely because the game would have been pretty much the same without Vaan being involved at all...
Still, one of the BEST stories of any FF. Highly recommend it if you haven't played it. Basch and Gabranth were amazing characters!
Fact is I did like it at first... then since I've played the others (as that was my first ever ff) I've just not liked it when I've tried to re play it... no idea why I just can't get into it :/
We are who we are no one can take that away from us.
Well... 12's true problem is about the same problem that 13 has. it takes about 10-15 hours of game play before you start to actually scratch the storyline. The upside is 12 has probably 40-60 hours of total gameplay. Getting through that first 10 hour stretch to actually get into the game is the hard part... because up until then, unless you really like Vaan's character you aren't really given much reason to stick around.
Once you start to hit some of the plot of the game and get into it though, I really think it might be the best story they have told since like FF4...
12 Was very tactical in a sense... I always loved how strong the AI was for that game. There were many scenarios where the AI could defeat a boss or a special mob just by utilizing the gambits properly. Also, it was so true to the little niches of Final Fantasy... things like where cure magic hurts undead and other mechanics.
For those who haven't played FF12, there is a bounty hunter system in the game where you are able to go off and hunt down notorious monsters all over the world. One of my favorite fights is the battle against Fafnir... for some very interesting reasons.
Typically, this mob is OP as hell... he is highly resistant to weapon damage and the lower his HP goes the faster he starts to attack and the harder he starts to hit. When the game first game out, getting through this hunt was one of the hardest parts of the game because a lot of people didn't level enough or really know how to take him on.
Sooooo, then people figured this little trick out. It turns out Fafnir loves to spam Lightning spells, especially when you use them on him. He was designed to adapt to the playstyle you use against him and fight back the same way. The only problem for poor Faffy is that he is weak to lightning magic. Hence this strat came... Full reflect on your party and then you cast Thundaga on your party with each of your party members. The Thundaga reflects and each party member can suddenly triple cast on Fafnir... not to mention his own OP thunder bombs are coming back his way too. Takes him down SUPER fast... Stuff like this, is what I game for.
In FF9, the only characters I liked were Zidane, Garnet and Steiner... It was a good game and had some very awesome moments, but of the modern Final Fantasy games I think it's my least favorite.
FF8 was cool, I loved most of the characters... Squall was awesome (despite being a total dick), Rinoa was cute, Zell and Selphie were obnoxious but lovable... and Irvine was pretty bad ass. That said... the storyline from FF8 STILL confuses me to this day... despite having a wife who absolutely worships the game. Laguna and the Moombas were probably my favorite part of the game though. The FF8 card game was my favorite of the card games too...
FF7 was my first RPG (other then Zelda games if you want to consider those RPGs...) Because it was my first, I kinda hold it higher then most. Cloud is to this day one of my favorite RPG characters ever... some of the others I loved from this game were Rufus, Tifa, Vincent, Aeris and even though he isn't in the game Zack. (Zack Fair was such an awesome character, if you didn't get to play Crisis core you should try it out... I never finished it but dude just goes through sooooo much shit and still hangs on to hope.)
FF10 was a big one for me, I loved the world of Spira, and the characters... I loved all the characters from 10. I think it might have been one of the very best Final Fantasy games for me. A lot of people complain about Tidus, I'm not really sure why... he's probably the most REAL Final Fantasy hero since Cecil... but the ending was so weird and crappy... sooo much feels... Blitzball was THE BEST FF MINIGAME EVAR!
I already told you how I feel about FF12... and sadly I haven't even gotten more then a few hours into FF13 the battle system just wasn't very much fun to me... between that and Hope's constant whining I couldn't take much of 13... but Lightning... was awesome... >_>

in 13-2 Hope isn't so whiney but hes still anoying lol. Fang in 13 was amazing I love her more then Lightning in 13...13-2 shes not in really so Lightning then became my best and in Lightning returns I just love the changing of her outfits each time you switch types . FFX loved that one too cant wait for the HD remake in march and sounds like they are adding some stuff into them too so hopefully X and X-2 will be even better
